Thanks for making our dream home a reality.

January 24, 1991

Dear Dan,

On behalf of John and myself, I wish to express our deep appreciation for the outstanding job you and your construction crew did in building our house.

As this was our first experience building a custom home, you consistently took the initiative to guide us through the process, suggest amendments to the original design, and above all, you kept us from making any permanent, major design and/or construction errors! You demonstrated a conscientious job approach from start to finish, even months before we signed the contract. You set an example for other contractors to follow.

In addition, we feel we got more than “our money’s worth”; your creative finishing touches, and commitment to excellence were “above and beyond the call of duty”. This is especially true with our Victorian home. It was difficult to find anyone in San Diego who would take both a professional and personal interest in this unusual project. You certainly put forth the effort to ensure our home is more beautiful than we ever imagined. You even made yourself accessible day and night during the weekends, just to accommodate our hectic work schedule!

Thanks again Dan, for making our dream home a reality. Please feel free to use us as a reference, we would be happy to let other prospective clients know of your tremendous talent!

Sincerely,
John and Debbie Shevlin

Dan was always a pleasure to work with.

January 27, 1991

To Whom It May Concern:

From the initial bidding stages we were convinced that Dan was the contractor that we had wanted to build our home. Dan was extremely conscientious in not only the proposal that he presented, but the time he took to follow up and answer our unending questions.

Having never built a home before, we knew we needed someone who we could trust and would be committed to our project. Dan has high standards for his crews and subcontractors. His skills and craftsmanship show in the high quality of our home. The most important thing about Dan is his concern for the homeowner and whether or not we were pleased with it every step of the way.

Dan is a true professional, he has the ability to analyze the details and advise us on the impact of some of the things in the plans that we would have overlooked and to assist us in continuing the Southwest theme.

I would also like to comment about Dan’s wonderful personality. He was always a pleasure to work with. All Dan’s subcontractors told us what a pleasure it was to be associated with Dan, you could tell they had a great rapport. We believe that mutual respect is an essential part of a good team.

Sincerely,
Kathy and Dennis Fultz

The real litmus test? We would select Dan again!

November 5, 1992

Prospective Home-Builders:

We would like to take a moment of your time to discuss the significant construction and management accomplishments that Dan Fleury, acting as our general contractor, made during the building of our 5000 sq. ft. custom home. We selected Dan after a rigorous and competitive selection process involving 15 “word-of-mouth” contractors that were recommended to us by friends.

From the start, Dan exhibited a professional, extremely knowledgeable and personable demeanor. On-site interviews with his previous clients, without exception, resulted in high degrees of praise for his ability to build quality homes on schedule and within budget. Although his clients offered enthusiastic recommendations and endorsements, the real “litmus test” was their answer to the question, “If you had to do it over again, knowing what you now know, would you select Dan to build your home?” The universal response to this was “absolutely!” Following a very competitive and thorough bidding process we selected Dan as our general contractor. That selection was the key to a most enjoyable building experience, contrary to the many “horror stories” we have heard. A few of Dan’s significant attributes and noteworthy accomplishments are listed below:

  • Developed and managed an effective team of conscientious and professional subcontractors.
  • Provided “hands-on” participation during much of the actual construction work to help reduce building costs.
  • Meticulous attention to detail resulted in quality construction at every phase, from start to finish.
  • Friendly and considerate personality made for very easy working relations and effective communication.
  • Frequently provided honest opinions and creative suggestions in a tactful manner.
  • Flexible and responsive in accommodating our change requests at fair cost.
  • Consistently communicated with us every day with status reports, discussions of potential problems and advance notice of upcoming decisions that needed to be made.
  • Completed construction expeditiously according to schedule. (The only delays, in fact, were created by us as we debated some of our decisions.)
  • Worked diligently with us throughout the building process to reduce building costs, where practical, with appropriate modifications and suggestions.

Finally, our answer to the real “litmus test” question—“If we had to do it again, would we select Dan?”—is without hesitation, “absolutely!”

We really appreciated Dan’s attentiveness after working with a previous contractor.

January 24, 1991

To Whom It May Concern,

Usually when you ask a person who has just built their home if they would recommend their contractor, the answer is, “no”. However, it is with pleasure that we can recommend the contractor who built our home—Dan Fleury. We had previously had a home built by another contractor and the difference between that contractor and Dan was evident during construction.

Dan’s biggest difference was the level of contact he kept with us. He would call us almost daily, keeping us informed with everything that was going on and the next phases of construction. He never seemed inaccessible either and always returned our calls promptly. It is very important for the contractor and the homeowner to have good open lines of communication, and Dan’s efforts were very much appreciated by us.

When we made changes during construction, he supported our changes and facilitated them by offering suggestions. Despite our changes, Dan’s timeline for construction was very on schedule. He even finished our home one week before he had predicted. The way Dan kept on top of everything made the difference.

We highly recommend Dan Fleury as a contractor. After working with him, we regard him as a friend. If we ever decide to build a home again, we would certainly have Dan as our contractor. We would be happy to talk with you if you have further questions. Dan has our phone number.

Sincerely,
Greg and Carol Baer

Dan is a contractor who wants to please his customers.

To Whom It May Concern:

Dan did a tremendous job building our house. We are very well pleased with his work from the beginning of the project to the end.

Dan communicated with us exceptionally well throughout the process. He was always easy to reach by telephone. He always returned our phone calls promptly. He responded to our requests for information very well.

Dan was very honest and fair in all his dealings with us. He stood by his agreements with us. He improved upon the plans for the house (drawn up by our architect), making little changes here and there without charging us extra. Of course we expected to pay Dan for costly changes that we asked for, and we did so. But Dan told us ways to improve the house as he was building it, even though it didn’t make him more money… These are things that were not in the plans and that we would not have noticed.

Dan also was very good about helping us build the house we wanted, rather than just building it his way. Many people in various fields try to sell you their preferences, rather than listening to yours and trying to please you. Or they simply make their own decisions during the building process without asking for the client’s preferences. Dan listened. He tried to think of ways to meet our interests. He told us about our options throughout the construction.

Our house is also very well-built, from all indications. Although I am not an expert on building, I did bring in contractors during the course of construction on a few occasions, and without exception they were highly impressed with everything from the quality of the cabinetry to the cleanliness of the house during construction. One contractor said that here is a builder who wants to please his customers, and who wants more jobs.

Dan also built the house without undue delays. He poured the foundation in late October and the house was finished and ready for us to move in by mid-February, just over 3 months later, right on schedule despite the unseasonable rains we had during January and February.

As unlikely as it seems, there was not one single problem with Dan and his work throughout the entire process, and Dan even kept his subcontractors in line, with no serious problems to speak of (at least no problems that came to us). We also stayed within budget, except for a few additions of ours to the original contract for air conditioning and other such things. Even then, we were only about $5,000 over our original contract, due to our additions.

As a college professor and department chairperson who has done a lot of hiring in recent years for faculty positions, I must say that Dan is an outstanding, client-centered, fair-minded person to deal with, as well as being an outstanding builder. My wife and I give Dan our highest recommendation; if we ever built another house, we would turn to Dan right away. I have little doubt that it is rare to find contractors with the combination of overall expertise, fair-mindedness, and professionalism that Dan has.

Mr. and Mrs. David Sanderlin
